honorarydoctors 2019Uppsala University has announced its honorary doctors for this academic year. The new honorary doctors include researchers in fields as diverse as string theory, maternal healthcare, evolutionary biology, the European history of ideas, prostata cancer and preschool pedagogy. Among them there are also two U4Society professors: Petra Broomans (Groningen/Ghent) and Michel Vandenbroeck (Ghent).

The title of honorary doctor is conferred upon individuals who have done outstanding academic work or in some other way promoted research at the University. Honorary doctors ara alway appointed upon decision by the nine faculties. The conferment ceremony for new honorary doctors will be held in the University Main Building on 31 January 2020.

Petra Broomans, associate professor with ius promovendi at the University of Groningen and visiting professor at Ghent University, is a prominent researcher in the field of Swedish literature, women’s writing and cultural transfer and transmission. She is also at the basis of various U4Society initiatives in these fields.

Michel Vandenbroeck is associate professor in family pedagogy at Ghent University in Belgium, where he teaches and conducts research on policy and practice in early childhood care and education and its relationship to family policy.
